TF Vineyard and Winery
We've been back on the hunt for some tasty wines here lately, and did we ever find some at TF Vineyard and Winery in Boyd, TX! Nestled among lovely vines and full, beautiful trees is a super-cute tasting room with a brand new patio space that is ready for some visitors. Paula will greet you with a smile and pour you just about everything they have to offer, make you a delicious snack, and tell you anything you want to know about her dream of owning a vineyard.
We tried a little of everything and nothing disappointed. First, we had the Blanc du Bois, which had a bit of an earthiness to it, hints of lemongrass and maybe celery, and a light mouthfeel. Next up was the Malvasia Bianca, a new varietal for us, and quite nice. It was a bit sweeter than the Blanc du Bois, with hints of honeysuckle and apple. The real beauty where the whites are concerned, though, was the blend - the Rock Island White - which is a near half and half blend of the Blanc du Bois and Malvasia Bianca. Dry and with just a hint of sweet, this white blend stole the show.
Once we moved on to the reds, the show was unstoppable. They have a Lomanto that, although only aged for only ten months, is dark and inky and rich and full. And y'all, when it's gone, it's gone. They didn't bottle a whole ton of it, so if you can go and grab a taste and a bottle, I suggest you do so very quickly.
Other stand-outs include the Zinfandel and the 2019 Tempranillo. The Zin had a nice touch of tobacco on the nose, like your great-grandpa's pipe, and while that might sound a little strange, it's one of my favorite smells in a wine. It was a little fruit-forward but finished with a little spice and pepper at the end. The Temp had a little vanilla in the nose and a rich, oaky finish. We love a good Tempranillo, and this one didn't disappoint - can't wait to crack open the one I bought in about 10 years when it's nice and aged.
All in all, this was a great start to our day. Next time you're out near Boyd on the weekend, stop in and have a sip. You're sure to leave happy you did.
Cheers, y'all!
